Our Dog-Friendly + Dog Themed Stay in Fredericksburg, TX
I knew I wanted to do something special for our first wedding anniversary but wasn’t really sure what to do at first due to coronavirus. Then I thought, a weekend getaway would be PERFECT! A change of scenery and visiting a place we’ve always wanted to visit.
We’ve driven through Fredericksburg before and I noticed a dog store on Main Street and went right to their Instagram. That store is Dogologie! Come to find out they also own a dog-themed Vrbo. I found the place from scrolling on BringFido for places to stay.
I had the whole thing planned without the hubby knowing a thing (he figured it out before we were halfway there). I even planned a pit stop at a cute little barkery on the way down. If you live around or are driving by Hillsboro, make a point to stop at Barking Mutt Bakery! It’s a dog bakery, they do grooming and it’s a boutique! We will definitely be stopping by again in the future.
The Vrbo was about a four hour drive from us. It’s nestled in a cute neighborhood in Fredericksburg only a couple blocks from Main Street. The owner lives right next door and greeted us and gave us a tour on arrival! The dogs couldn’t wait to get into the huge fenced in backyard.
We asked her what places she recommended and she gave us some great options! Also provided at the house is a Dog Lovers Guide to Fredericksburg. Absolutely genius and SO helpful. It provides a list of wineries and restaurants that are either dog-friendly or NOT. When we went, the tasting rooms were closed at the wineries so we didn’t get to go to any. But hey, another reason for us to go back right?!
We went to dinner at Tubby’s the first night which has a dog-friendly patio. It was raining when we went so we opted to go without the pups! When we got back, we enjoyed some drinks on the covered patio and enjoyed the rain. It was so relaxing and peaceful, a perfect evening.
First thing Saturday morning, I surprised Chance and got us reservations to see Enchanted Rock! If you’re planning to go, be sure to make reservations or else they won’t let you in. We’ve tried before 🤣 After some research, I found out you can bring dogs with you on the Loop Trail but not on the Summit Trail. Our walk got cut short when we realized along the way, Trigger had stuck himself with a cactus needle in his nose and it started bleeding. Chance cleaned it up and he was all good but we figured it was time to turn back. Such a cool experience even if it got cut short!
On the way back from Enchanted Rock, we stopped at Dogologie to check it out! And WOW it was packed. That made it hard to take photos but we tried! There were SO many items. Leashes, hats, toys, coffee mugs, stationary, you name it! And with your Vrbo booking, you get a $25 gift card to the store!
We ended our Saturday with exploring Main Street. We ate an incredible anniversary dinner at CrossRoads Saloon & Steakhouse and enjoyed live music.
We can’t wait to go back when the wineries are open. Fredericksburg is the perfect getaway location for your entire family, including the furry ones!
